Rehash – Slip Sliding Away…

………..and yes…….we did just that!

It was a beautiful sunny day in Ithaca this past Sunday…must have been some sort of freakish nature thing being in Ithaca and all…….but cold and windy………ahh….never mind……….perfect irony……….

As we began assembling in the parking lot at the South Hill Elementary School wondering where the hell our hares were……we were joined by numerous out-of-towners who had journeyed far and wide to hash with us…(after doing the Full Moon pub crawl hash in Trumansburg the night before)….and a couple of locals that hadn’t hashed in quite some time. Always a pleasure to have visitors and old friends show up at a hash….

Well, our hares, Rowdy Bush and Roto Root Her, finally showed up after purportedly having to fix a flat tire. Sounds like a prolonged murkey moment to me……..

ON-ON-ON!!!!!!!!!!!

But where? Certainly not UP the hill…….Rowdy Bush HATES hills!!……..Wrong!…….on up we went….and up….and up….and even further up!!!

We finally got a bit of a rest at the sculpture and mirror pond up on Ithaca College campus……no beer………but a GREAT view of the lake and city. The visitors loved it.

Now where?………On up some more!!…but only a little ways farther. At the top of the IC parking lot we found BEER!!!!….and some sleds. The ground was covered with a light layer of snow and HARD ice was beneath. Almost every hasher fell at some point here. Many tried their hand at sledding….some went into the trees…some in holes…and Skywacker did numerous tumbles on down the hill from the top. His hands were frozen beyond feeling…….but Becky came to the rescue by allowing him to place them up under her coat to get warm…we’re not sure how far…….but Skywacker was smiling!!!!!!!

Beer gone…and on down….finally!!…we went. Slip-sliding our way down the slope and back onto the roadway.

The ice behind us…or so we thought…we headed on down to the South Hill Recreation path.

Much to our dismay…….LOTS MORE ICE!!!!! What is normally a nice path to trot on was wrought with icy, snow covered death traps. Hockey skates would have been better than sneakers.

Alas, with no more beer in sight we headed for the end of the trail….at a snails pace. :o)

The ON-IN was held in Rowdy Bush’s massive apartment….I think we all fit in. And the DOWN-DOWNs began.
